Recently awarded the M.B.E. (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his contribution to cycling, Phil is universally known as “The Voice of Cycling,” and is an integral part of VERSUS' cycling coverage. Having worked as a TV sports commentator since 1978 and having covered seven summer and four winter Olympic Games, Phil brings plenty of world-class experience to VERSUS' cycling programs.  In his 34 years of reporting on the Tour de France, Phil has yet to spend a July at home since 1973. Phil hosted and scripted an Emmy award-winning program on the Paris-Roubiax classic. He also received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Sports Personality in 2002.
Sharing his award-winning style on programs from World Cup Ski jumping to speed skating, from triathlons to four-man sledding, Phil is sports reporting’s jack-of-all-trades. At 29, after 12 years as an amateur racer, Phil became the youngest International Cycling Commissaire (referee), and worked at the Tour of Zambia, Egypt, and the 1975 World Championships. With plenty of experience both behind the scenes at cycling events and in front of the camera as a journalist, Phil has a personal perspective on the race and the riders like no one else could.

Everyone seems to have an opinion on the most unorthodox member of VERSUS' team of cycling commentators. From continually poking fun at French cycling fans while commentating for the network’s “Tour DAY France” coverage, to his one of a kind Roll-isms, Bob Roll has an unforgettable personality and intense passion for cycling which he brings to his coverage of VERSUS' cycling programs. Racing in the Tour de France four times since the beginning of his cycling career in 1984, and eventually making the transition to mountain bike racing in 1992, he is an accomplished cyclist and a popular author, including "Tour de France Companion,” which gives an insider’s look into the strategy, technique, and rules of bicycle racing. Since Bob first joined the VERSUS team in 2001, his additions to the crew have been every bit as colorful and entertaining as they are insightful.

Bob's cycling experiences include:
• Member of the Cycling Hall of Fame as part of the original 7-Eleven Cycling Team
• Former member of the Motorola Cycling Team
• Four-time Tour de France, three-time Giro d'Italia, eight-time Paris-Roubaix, and three-time Tour de Suisse racer
• Won stage three of the 1988 Tour de Romandie
• Won stage 11 of the 1985 Coors Classic
• Won the 1997 & 1998 San Franciso Hill Climb
• Raced in eight World Championships
