Junior Seau Goes Back to Work -- With the Patriots

The host of Versus’ “Sports Jobs with Junior Seau” is returning to his old job. On Tuesday, linebacker Junior Seau signed with the New England Patriots, for whom he played four games last season after coming out of retirement.

"I'm very fortunate and honored to be involved with two class organizations - the New England Patriots and Versus," said Seau. "I want to thank the management of both for making my return to the NFL with the New England Patriots a reality."

It was widely reported the past few days that Seau was likely to return to the gridiron and suit up for the Patriots. It is no secret that the 12-time Pro Bowler is fond of New England coach Bill Belichick, the relationship with whom Seau has cited in published reports as being the reason for his return. Another factor is that, having played with the Pats last season, he is familiar with the system and is not facing a step learning curve in the middle of the season.

The call went out to the 40-year-old Seau because the Patriots’ defense has been in need of repairs since the off-season thanks to retirement and injuries.

Seau continued to shoot episodes of “Sports Jobs” while preparing for his return to the NFL and the show will go on as scheduled.

“Junior Seau’s return to the New England Patriots will in no way affect his hosting duties with VERSUS’ original series, Sports Jobs with Junior Seau," said Versus President Jamie Davis.  "The network will run a full season and the show will still debut on December 2 at 10 p.m. ET as planned.  After seeing how hard some of these sports jobs actually were—including getting tackled by a bull—Junior decided he’d rather take his chances on the gridiron.  All joking aside, we’re excited for Junior to have this opportunity, we wish him the best of luck on his return to the NFL and look forward to a successful first season of Sports Job with Junior Seau.”
